Many who knew him from school wouldn't have taken him to be the man he became. He was awkward and quiet and strange to his peers while growing up. Or so it has been said. There was a few things that was known about him. That he adored every creature he ever lays his eyes on, that he's an excellent student, and that someone was fated to be with him based on the mark that sat on his inner wrist.
A lot has changed since then and now. Newton was an exemplary auror who rivaled even his brother's prowess. Both were a force to be reckon with in the Ministry (and many have found that having both around was bad given their mischievous streaks). They were both very similar. Friendly and charming with a bit of a flirtatious side. The type of personalities that attract others naturally. Newton, by any means, was someone that many have grown to idolize or admire or pursue. What hadn't changed from his school years is that he still had a certain soulmark that was permanently a part of him.
Soulmates were an ancient magic that most didn't know what to make of it. It had become a part of everyday life that no one really thought much of it and saw it as just a normal thing. There were many who believed in it and many that didn't. The idea of being fated to be with someone was always a strange debate. Some loved it and some hated it. There had even been talks about how soulmates didn't necessarily mean an eternal love. That even those that were marked and met may separate or that they may never meet in their lifetime.
Newton, however, was enamored by the idea. That there was someone out there who will love him unconditionally and that they were intertwined with him was such a beautiful thing.
Because who could love someone like him? He wasn't actually what people thought he was. He was far from it. Newton had just merely learned how to play a convincing charade. In reality, he was still very much how he was back in school. He was quiet and eccentric and he was uncomfortable with people. With touch from another person. Yet, at least he had this mark that reminded him that there was someone who would love him for that.
It was some form of solace.
His charade wasn't the only secret he held. No one would ever probably believe that the Scamanders held a rather particular secret. Certainly no one would believe that the internationally infamous Artemis was the same Newton Scamander who upheld the law. Artemis was a wild rulebreaker and while they weren't exactly evil, they were still a rogue person doing as they please. For the authorities, Artemis was a vigilante who did as they pleased. While they had broken and shutdown more smuggling rings than any government has managed, it couldn't be ignored that they weren't potentially dangerous. After all, no one knew what happened to those creatures. They were always spirited away.
Who would ever think that they were one in the same? The Newton Scamander that was an auror for the Ministry of Magic and the Artemis who has busted countless smuggling rings and taking all the creatures with him.
Well, what others don't know won't hurt them.
MACUSA is in a bit of disarray today. A lot of hustle and bustle as many of the MACUSA employees excitedly wait. Really, one would think that the MACUSA had employed a bunch of teenagers with all the gossip and whispers going about the place. The Ministry of Magic were transferring a few of their aurors over to help in a large scale case. Usually, the MoM wouldn't be so willing to send some of their finest over, but the implications that the case may be tied to international cases of murders and disappearances had made them more willing. It wasn't a big team, of course. Who could really afford to send too many of their best and brightest? Still, the team was sound and the whispers were about the one in charge of the small group of British aurors.
A certain Newton Scamander.
It's then that a group of people enter, led by the Minister himself. The minister and eight aurors. One of them walked just a step behind the Minister with the rest of the aurors behind him. Newton was a tall man. He stood a beautiful 6'2" with dark, slicked hair and wearing a three piece suit under a black woolen trench coat. A yellow and dark grey scarf was wrapped around his neck and he had an easy smile as he glanced around them. It wasn't long for Seraphina to greet the group and walking off to her office with the Minister to discuss, leaving the group of aurors standing where they are to look around.
There were whispers and chatter around them.] So this is MACUSA, is it?
[There are times where Newt really wonders how he had ever decided his career choice to be something he wanted to pursue. It wasn't that he hated his work. No, he wouldn't be doing what he was doing if he didn't love it. He was passionate about acting and singing. He adored it. There was something rather fun about bringing different characters to life and putting a mask on to become someone he was not. He enjoyed pretending to be characters and being part of a story and world that touched many.
What he absolutely hated was the media though. Leta was not wrong that Newt wasn't very good with being a public figure. He couldn't make eye contact and he tripped and stuttered over his words. It was almost a stark difference to his seemingly strong and confident demeanor as an actor.
He was absolutely terrified of public interaction.
Newton Scamander was an A-List actor with plenty of films and shows under his belt. Young and attractive and very much single. He was constantly under the spotlight.
Bloody hell, he just wanted to go to the bakery in peace. Is it so much to ask?
Apparently so, because Newt finds himself quickly making his way down the street. It wasn't that he wasn't used to it, but that he had some days where it was easier to be overwhelmed than others. It was one of those days where the idea of having paparazzi on him or having to interact at length with them was so anxiety inducing that he wonders why he had thought it were a good idea to leave his place in the first place.
Newt doesn't think too much before he decidedly slips into a small shop. He doesn't even know what the shop is until he's pretty sure he's not being followed inside and he can take a breather. It's then that he looks around to find himself in a flower shop of some sort.
Interest piqued, he quietly walks around the shop to look at all the flowers and plants on display. He didn't know a whole lot about gardening or growing things, but he felt that they looked quite beautiful. Rather well loved.]
Angels weren't created to love. They were created to do the bidding of others and to fulfill roles that they were assigned to do. For a very longtime, Artemis had done just that. His name was Artemis and he was well loved and did as he was told. He held the highest rank as an angel. Six beautiful wings and a strength and power that surpassed those of lower ranks and was only underneath the gods themselves. Seraphims stood closest to them and he was usually content with that.
Usual being the keyword. As content as he was. As happy as he was. Artemis was a terribly curious creature. Humans completely fascinated him. Their lives were so short, but full of so much life. How did people continue through all the pain and hardships and manage to live happy and fulfilling lives? How could they be so content with living so shortly that they seemed gone in a blink of an eye?
He simply wished to understand it more. Artemis had been warned so many times before to limit his time in the mortal realm. He was supposed to know better.
It wasn't as though he thought he could fall in love. He loved Earth and everything that resides on it. He was created to love what the gods created, after all. This was different though. This was personal. Selfish. Something that brought life and color into his days. He had fallen in love with a particular soul. It was beautiful to him. Stunning. He could not help but approach it. There was something burning about it and he didn't care that it burned him.
His curiosity and love was his undoing.
The man had told him his name was Percival and things really spiraled from there. In the end, Artemis had done something heinous. He had intervened in a way that he wasn't supposed to. He had prevented Percival's fated death.
He had been punished severely. Watching the gods kill Percival is a strong memory etched into his mind. There will never be a time he will ever forget it. It would be forever hang heavy in his mind and burden his heart in such an awful way. Artemis had been stripped of his rank as Seraphim, yet the excruciating physical torture of having four of his six wings and powers stripped from him will never surpass the heartache he felt for Percival.
If falling in love was a sin, then a sinner he had become. No one could convince him to rid himself of his foolish feelings and so his powers were stripped and his duties were changed.
It is why Artemis found himself sent to Earth with a new role. He had become an angel of death and he found himself taking countless souls to depart to a world beyond.
It also begun the arduous affair of taking Percival's soul over and over again. Their fates now intertwined; it was always him to help Percival pass on, yet there was suddenly a conundrum. Many souls depart permanently while some reincarnated, yet Percival never was satisfied at the idea of departing above. It was curious to him. Confusing.
He had always taken the form of a lover or a loved one or the appearance of what soothed the soul the most when he came to reap a soul. His appearance was reliant on what that soul wished for. To make departing easier. His appearance had varied greatly for Percival. It had been women and men. Some prettier or more handsome than others. The more times he came to the other though, the more he realized his appearance had started to seem to mold to something more consistent. It was subtle at first. Things like freckles becoming a constant to his hair becoming a usual reddish brown. When he stopped taking the appearance of women was when he started realizing that the other had built a solid image of him of some sort. He had completely forgotten the appearance he now held was the same one Percival had first seen him as countless lifetimes ago.
Life continues to move though and Artemis had kind of grown accustomed to the constant heartache and the life he held.
Artemis was Newton Scamander. A young man who spent his life restoring old art. It was something that he quite enjoyed. People were fascinating and the work they made was simply gorgeous. Being able to restore them to their former glory was somewhat of an honor in his opinion. To carefully clean and retouch and repair. His life has always been to serve and it seems that it hasn't changed even when he walked among mortals.
It was a particularly gloomy day. Overcast and grey as he walked down the street as he headed to work for the day. Newt was a stark contrast against grey. Fiery, bright hair and a blue coat that made him stick out. A striped scarf fluttered in the wind as he made his way through the crowds. He carried a large portfolio with a strap he wore on his shoulder. Something to transport the artwork safely. He also carried a case in one hand filled with art supplies necessary for what he did.
Newt pauses and looks up at the sky as he stands on an overpass that looks over one of the rivers that goes through the city. It's just a short moment before he continues on. There's something about that moment that makes him pause. Like something moving forward, but he doesn't know what it means or why the feeling is there. It seems like it'll be just another day.]
[The first day of school is always kind of exciting. It isn't so much the first day, but the evening of everyone arriving for the coming school year. A wonderful speech by the headmaster and the introduction of all the teachers of the year that would soon be followed by the yearly sorting and then a feast.
This year was particularly special. It wasn't often that transfers happened. Most parents usually kept their kids within the same school for the entirety of their school years, but they were having just that. A student from America's Ilvermorny being brought to Hogwarts.
He watches the sorting with interest this time around. He always loved to watch the sorting, but his interest was very much piqued this time around. Percival Graves was the name of the student being called up. A young man who he thinks would surely grow to a fine man.
There was something about them though that Newt thinks that he considers keeping an eye on Percival. A troubling look in those eyes that makes him worry about the other.
The new school year was certainly going to be eventful.]
[Growing up, Newt doesn't think he remembers what it's like to not be hungry. He doesn't remember what it's like to be warm and filled and comfortable. He only knows what it's like to be cold and hungry and living off the streets or living in the awful conditions that the orphanage offered.
It never really bothered him though. He had his brother and he thinks that having his brother was good enough. Stealing and scavenging and getting by was a difficult life, but he thinks he was happy. To some extent. Living on the streets were far more enjoyable than the cruelty of the other kids at the orphanage.
It's because of his brother that Newt wants a better life though. If not for himself, but for his brother. Theseus, who works so hard for the both of them, deserved a better life. He didn't have a lot of skills, he thinks. He can't really talk well, but he could do hard labor. Newt was good with animals, but he didn't know how that would help him in anyway. Or so he thought.
A flyer from the circus has him staring at the large tents and feeling so overwhelmed by the chatter around him as he's lead to the back. The flyer mentioned a reward to help with a situation in which no one could calm down their tiger, Tetra. No one has seemed to have managed to get close enough or felt courageous enough to approach the cage.
All the circus personnel find themselves crowding around as the ringleader pushes Newt forward a bit. Tetra growls and hunches herself while Newt stands there awkwardly with the key to her cage tightly held in his hands. The performers and personnel whisper to each other in a hushed manners; skeptical. How can some dirty guy from the streets even possibly think to do anything about Tetra? Still, they watch with curiosity to see what will happen next.]
[Since he was born, Newt never knew what he sounded like when he spoke. That is to say, no one else either. See, the Brit had been born mute and no amount of magic could really fix something that wasn't broken in the first place. He wasn't broken, he just merely was born without something others had. Can't really fix that, right?
It didn't really bother him that he couldn't speak anyways. Newt found that he liked it that way. He was kind of shy to begin with and it meant that he didn't necessarily have to interact with others. He can't say his life as a child wasn't fulfilling. It was quite fine growing up and playing with the hippogriffs his mother raised.
Trouble didn't really start becoming a thing until school. He loved Hogwarts quite a bit, but he did learn quite quickly the cruelty of his peers. It had solidified his stance that he found animals to be far better company than people could ever be. Why would he want to interact with others when all they ever seem to be is unnecessarily cruel?
He's thirty now and he has found that his thoughts hadn't changed, but that there were exceptions to the norm.
Newt had went to New York and helped with the capture of Grindelwald and had made friends and had assisted with the successful search of Percival Graves. All in all, he did quite a bit despite having had a completely different plan when he had came.
Percival Graves was in an awful state, but he'll never forget how the other looked at him. He was sure they were certainly half delirious and not all quite there from their unfortunate captivity. Still, there was something about the look in Percival's eyes. A certain fire in them and a whole lot of fight that stuck with him how terribly gorgeous the other was to him.
He couldn't stay too long, but he helped them locate him and get him properly settled to a hospital before he left. Percival and Newt never get to actually interact, so the other probably won't even remember him. All he had left for the other was gentle touches and freedom from captivity.
That was some months ago and Newt found him back in MACUSA. Spring has hit and the weather in New York is still a bit nippy, but Newt liked it this way. England was a bit similar in that regard, and he much preferred colder temperatures than warmer. He had promised his book to Tina and he intended to go through with that promise. Besides, he had received a letter about assisting MACUSA in someway, and he was a bit curious as to what they could possibly need him for.
He glances around the bustle around him as he tightly held the wrapped book in one arm and his infamous case in the other.
Now his real issue was that he...didn't actually really know how to navigate MACUSA at all, nor could he really ask someone either. Oh...Oh dear.]
Losing the magic part of his case has been somewhat of an ordeal if purely because of the niffler. Harry was an absolute menace. Here he was thinking that Greg would be the problem because he's an elephant-sized cat, but it still ends up being the niffler that's getting into trouble.
It's why he finds himself running through the streets chasing after the platypus-like creature and really wishing that his ability to teleport was still a work in progress.
"You come back here. What did I tell you about taking things that don't belong to you?" Despite the creature not being able to pocket as many items, it certainly still tries its best. It drops a few things here and there as it scurries through the cobblestone pathways.
Eventually though, Newt catches up and grabs the darned pilferer. This, of course, is not the end of Newt's troubles. Or at the very least, his day is about to get a lot more interesting. He ends up crashing into a figure and he's honestly impressed he didn't completely bowl them over with how quick he was chasing after his companion. "I-I'm- I'm really quite sorry about that..." His voice is quiet and he doesn't look up at who he had accidentally crashed into.
Time has passed since he had brought Percival to his place. He hasn't seen the other since, despite looking out for him around the city. While he knew he could track the other down if he really wanted to, he didn't. The other had been so resistant to offered help, that he felt like looking for the other would have the opposite desired effect that he wanted.
Still, he can't help but wonder if the man was doing okay. He glances out the window of the space he called home. It was larger now. Expanded. It housed more creatures than before and he was converting space to start replicating environments to accommodate his new companions.
A soft sigh escapes his mouth. "You think I should look for him, Pickett? I fear what could have happened to him," he says quietly. Newt felt obligated to try and help the other. They were from the same world stuck in the same place. Newt had been lucky to just having to relearn magic. He knew the transformations were far from enjoyable and he can only fathom what it would be like to lose magic. "I do hope that he's taking care of himself..."
[As time passes, things change like the seasons. Technology advances and society moves forward as they make new discoveries.
Magic, for the most part, was still something that was hidden well. No longer was it completely separated though. Many have learned that there needed to be some amount of awareness between muggles and magic for them to be able to protect the world in which they lived in.
Companies existed in which they shared sister companies where muggles and wizards saw eye to eye for the betterment of a future for both communities.
Such things like helping wizards and witches acclimate into muggle communities in hopes of helping them learn to fit in better and not to risk exposing themselves. It was somewhat important, especially with so many of them still far removed from their non magic counterparts.
Something that Theseus Scamander had sought out for his brother. Newton Scamander, who worked remotely well outside of society. A reconnaissance agent of some sort who specialized in tracking and research. Newt had been a complete stranger to even his magic brethren, preferring to stay out in the wild by himself. Or so it seems.
Yet, agreed to returning to society, but only if assistance was given by someone whom Theseus trusted. And so, the older brother had pleaded that Percival watch his baby brother and help the man learn how to blend in society.
Of course, that really doesn't explain the package that arrives at Percival's place. A worn out briefcase with a note "Knock first." taped to it that had been carefully packaged in a box for the other. It was certainly addressed to the man and the sender was Theseus. Why did Theseus send Percival a package though? Why hadn't they told him any info about Newt's arrival.
Why does Percival have to knock on the briefcase?]
[It's not safe to venture into the forest and mountains alone, one says. The mountains are always somewhat treacherous to pass, but it was better than crossing through the forest alone. The mountains may be dangerous with bandits and scaling them was always a risk. But no one would deny the dangers of the forest that sat to the West of the city.
After all, the fae reigned the luscious lands and dealing with the fae was always a tricky thing. The fae weren't mortal. They didn't have any sort of mortality, and so they did not understand (nor cared) about their actions being inhumane. People who had braved the forest has never been heard from again, and so it has been recommended to have a guide to safely help one through.
If one was lucky, one could entice a fae into agreeing to taking them across, but it was risky. Making deals with the fae wasn't something many were skilled at and even one wrong word could force one to be at the beck and call of one before they knew it.
Luckily though, many seek a man who lives in the forest not too far from the edge. A young looking man who wasn't completely human, but shared blood with the pesky creatures of the forest. Shunned by his full blood fae brethren and too odd to be accepted by humans; this man resided in the forest somewhere in between. Not too deep into the forests that he encroached in their territory, but outside of the city away from people who found him disgusting.
Yet, they sought him out for save travel for he was still fae, but held mortality. And so he had become a guide for the forest to help travelers cross through.
People still cautioned never to truly trust him though. After all, could you really trust someone who wasn't quite human?
Well, it's not like people are going to find someone else to help them across. Newt was the name he has people call him by. No last name. Nothing else. Just Newt. He stood at the edge of the forest waiting patiently. Newt didn't care who it was he was guiding as long as he was paid whatever he was promised and that they were polite to him.
There were enough stories about either not being met. A reminder that even the quiet guide could be monstrous if crossed.
There were certain things about his appearance that made him stick out. Bright red curls that was reminiscent of fire. The brightest green eyes, almost like gems. His clothing were a mix of leathers and furs and leaves stitched together carefully. He was freckled, but there was a slight shimmer to his skin and large wings were tattoo'd to his back and across the back of his limbs and seemed almost ethereal. They changed color and they reflected light almost like real wings (no one has ever seen the man with wings but there's a lot of talk). He held a long wooden staff with a lantern at the end of it. The wood was intricately carved and had precious stones inlaid into it. A single candle sat unlit inside the lantern.
The man waited patiently for whoever it was to arrive.]
Newt lost his hearing at seventeen. Of course, you would be pressed to find someone who had participated in the World War and leave the battlefield with everything intact. That was just how it was.
Losing his hearing was different from losing a limb though. It was jarring to say the least. Going from a world full of music and sounds and suddenly being stuck in a world completely silent. Stuck in his own mind and thoughts. He had lost more than just his hearing. He had lost a part of him. Passions so deeply entwined in music. It made the world just a little more grey.
He had learned to adapt with it. It became a well kept secret even. Most had no idea that the soon to be famous magizoologist couldn't hear the world around him.
When he had come to New York, he hadn't expected such a cold reception. No, not by the people around him. He knew he was a nobody in a big city. It was coming face to face with Percival Graves and being treated like a stranger. He had known on their first meeting that the man before him wasn't the same man that he had befriended so many years ago. Even if they had grown apart, there was no way that Graves wouldn't remember him.
It was no surprise to him when it was revealed that the Percival before them ended up being Gellert Grindelwald. It did leave a very serious question though. What happened to the real Percival Graves?
Newt couldn't just leave America without knowing the answer to it. He didn't have the heart to leave without finding the other. If he were honest, he didn't think they were doing a particularly good job finding the man either. It's why he had tasked himself into finding the auror.
That's how he finds himself sitting in the best hospital that the wizarding community in New York could offer. He watched quietly over the sleeping form of the real Percival Graves; the room oddly peaceful and quiet. The usual hustle and bustle of the hospital not reaching pass the door while the man slept. It let Newt mull over the events of the last few days. The difficulty of tracking Percival down and their interaction when he had found and rescued the man before the man had lost consciousness.
He gently reaches out to brush some hair out of Percival's face and considers leaving. Percival was surely safe now and he wasn't needed anymore, right?
[Newt Scamander. British born and raised. He hadn't intended to make New York his permanent residence early on. A case that had taken him from England to the rest of Europe to even the States. He had spent a good time with the aurors of MACUSA even. The case had proved to be rather fatal in ways and Newt found himself transferred from the Ministry of Magic to Head of Security for MACUSA.
Distance will be your friend. Or at least that was what they had told him after the death of Leta Lestrange as a casualty during the final battle. One that had shook the Brit to his core and had flipped his world.
He doesn't think about how much time has passed since then. How much time that he still lets guilt keeps its claws dug deep into his heart. It has been quite some time since anyone had seen Newt smile something more carefree. See him enjoy himself instead of throwing himself into his work wholeheartedly.
If he had been better or done more, perhaps Leta wouldn't be dead. Or so he feels.
A new group of wide-eyed junior aurors find themselves surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the MACUSA building. They stand in a neat line in front of a crowd of senior aurors. Standing in front, of course, was head of security. Curly haired tamed by product and wearing a clean three piece suit (a vivid blue) and standing straight with hands folded behind his back. It's a little humorous to see that standing as head auror wasn't American at all.
Obvious as he starts to speak.] Good morning. Hold your heads high because you have been considered the best of the best and we welcome you to MACUSA ranks. I'm going to assume that all of you have already familiarized with headquarters so we're going to get into the thick of it. We will be assigning you all to teams so do please familiarize and get along with each other. Get on now.
[The senior aurors call their junior aurors and the gathering slowly disperses leaving a small group left. Newt, four of his senior aurors, and the remaining junior aurors.] And you, in particular, who were considered to be the cream of the crop or so they say. You will be working with us, so be sure to keep your head on your neck because we usually are in the thick of it all. Any questions?
[It's a gloomy day in New York. Not so unusual, given the city, but always a good weather for the magizoologist. He snaps the latches on his suitcase closed as he leaves his dingy apartment and onto the crowded streets of the city. It was windy and chilly and the sun wasn't visible at all. Honestly, it reminded him much of London.
The Brit kept his briefcase in one gloved hand and umbrella tucked under his arm as he wandered.
It had been some years since Newt had abandoned his surname; disowned by his family after his expulsion. He had no interests in whatever ideologies purebloods usually got distracted by nor did he have interest in pursuing some career that his parents considered acceptable. He especially had no interest in an arranged marriage with women whom he would never love. He had learned early on that society was cruel and that he didn't really fit in it at all and that was fine.
Newt had found happiness in magizoology and the creatures that he came across. He was content with living frugally and putting the hard work to get through day by day. It was refreshing versus the suffocating and stifling lifestyle that his family had intended
Though, complications had came up in ways he hadn't expected. Mainly, Newt had never considered the certain dangers of being turned. It had been a rather difficult change in his life that he was still adapting to.
That's why a completely overcast day was perfect. He can wander the city dressed and covered as much as possible, but not worry too much about getting burned. Newt adjusted his hat absentmindedly as he gave a tentative glance up at some of the looming skyscrapers. New York had been quite exciting to wander through. It was his first time in America and he wanted to enjoy it.
A particularly large gust of wind knocks his hat off and Newt has to scramble after it. While the cover from the buildings and clouds were probably good enough, he can't help but be nervous of not having a hat on for extra insurance.] Ah, bugger.
[He had intended to keep his distance from the human whom he had bonded with. Humans and dragons perceived time so differently and the young human he had first met had grown in a blink of an eye. It had been better this way even if it meant accepting a life of loneliness.
But he felt it and it called to him like a Siren's song. Percival's lament was too much for him to keep ignoring. Newt had always avoided human society and kept to the countryside and mountains. He didn't know much about human culture, but he had known them to be cruel. He has seen the war torn land and the destruction they leave. The polluted air they produce. Yet, he couldn't change what his heart yearned for.
It's his heart's want for the other that leads to his folly.
Newt lays in a cage that is too small, having already exhausted himself after his initial capture. His mouth is bound shut and chains and shackles keep him securely down as his captors pull iridescent scales and extract blood from him. He doesn't know how long time has passed, but time really meant little to him and all he has learned is that perhaps humans were even more cruel than he had already thought.
He tries to squirm and shift, seeking some kind of comfort. Newt was at a loss as to what to do. Wizards have really learned how to utilize their magic. For better or worse.]
[ For most of his life Percival had followed what was expected of him—get good grades, be well behaved and hide your sneaking out with friends, get into an esteemed college, earn a respectable degree so that you can go back and teach as an alumnus, all while going steady with a girl and eventually plan on marrying her. For the few weeks or so, Percival thought it heartbreak. It was more than that, however.
Consider it, will you? It might make you happier, Her voice echoes in his mind at the most inconvenient of times. And he did, often, if only to appease that looming thought.
And how the resolution struck him he really isn’t sure. A mixture of a bottle of wine and another lonely night, undoubtedly, wanting to have some kind of relief other than by himself. He’d found the app after looking at handfuls of posts, downloading it on a whim. It felt more like a joking indulgence; surely he wasn’t going to meet someone from it. Until he stumbled across a post titled: Anonymously.
The immediate acceptance he found from that alone was startlingly sobering, and it takes him minutes of blank staring before he makes a decision he doesn’t entirely make conclusively. The cursor blinks at him as he thinks how to start the conversation. ]
Meeting anonymously is new to me but you’ve made it very tempting, if you don’t mind my saying. I’m free to meet up now, if that works for you?
[ That was polite and to the point, right? Yes. Send. ]
[He had never cared for the lavish and carefree lifestyle his brethrens seem to indulge in. The parties to the glutton to their promiscuous tendencies. It really just wasn't his scene.
Of course, his circumstances are unique. He didn't have the luxury of leisurely spending his time like the others. Being God of the Underworld was more momentous task than he thinks anyone realizes (or cares). Mortals, to the gods, were play things to them. Objects or toys. Not actual living things with their own autonomy. They didn't hold any value to immortals. It was such an insulting way of thinking.
The underworld isn't some lifeless and gloomy place. Not exactly. There's a coldness to it and it is far from homey like Olympus. Hades enjoyed it though. The place was stone walls and countless shelves filled with tomes. He knew every name and every story. Unlike most others, he had valued every life that went through his domain, no matter the length of their life.
He didn't care to join in on the festivities on Olympus. He attended more out of a feeling obligation and less because he wanted to be there. Hades lingered only long enough to be considered satisfactory before departing; spending much of his time off to the side and observing everyone else behind the deer skull he hid his face behind. As far as he knew, no one cared if he were there or not other than they found more humour in making fun of him when he was there to hear their stinging words. There have been attempts to converse with him (along with trying to proposition him), but he was also far less socialized than everyone else when he spends majority of his time working than being around others. Or at least that weren't departed souls.
However, recently, he had been rather...preoccupied. He found himself leaving the Underworld more recently and more often. Simply put, he was harboring a rather helpless crush over Demeter's child. Persephone.
Which leads to his current conundrum.
He really wasn't thinking was he. He sure he wasn't. Not when he all but spirited Persephone to his realm and now he found him face to face with a rather displeased looking immortal.
Hades really should worry about possibly placating them or the fact that they were quite mad (could he blame them even?). All he could really think about was really how beautiful they were though.]
[Newt never had much love for the particulars about pureblood lifestyle. He honestly hated it. The idea that somehow being pureblood meant you were better than others or this unnecessary need to flaunt ones status. He hated the socializing of extravagant parties and constant events. It just wasn't something he cared for and he found that his interests really didn't line up with that way of thinking.
He was all but content with being left alone during school. It didn't please his parents, but he was happy with keeping to himself and studying all the creatures that they shared the world with. They had Theseus to be proud of and Newt being an afterthought, while stung, was honestly something he was more than happy with.
And then he got expelled.
Things had become far less enjoyable. The constant berating from his parents and them reminding him how much of a disappointment he was. It wasn't a great feeling. Being told you were all but worthless is far from a pleasant feeling. He really hated the particulars of pureblood heritage.
It was why he found himself seated in a parlor of a rather fancy tea establishment. His parents had seen that he would only be fit for marriage to further status. Why his parents had lied though...
Homosexuality wasn't much of an issue within the magic community (although Newt was aware that it seemed to be an issue with muggles), but it was insisted that he would be a bride-to-be. Perhaps American wizards were found issue with it, he doesn't know. He had no issue with it (considering his preferences), but he had no say in the matter.
He absentmindedly smoothed his dress down as his eyes dart back at the entrance to the parlor. They were late. Quite so. He almost wonders if he was being stood up for afternoon tea by a stranger he hasn't spoken to in any capacity, but was to marry him in the short future.
He can't even be offended. It was hilarious if anything. His husband-to-be and they were terribly late for their first meet.] Really, if he isn't going to show up, I'd love to know. I really would like to at least enjoy some tea.

Reincarnation AU

Fae AU

Get on now.

Newt, four of his senior aurors, and the remaining junior aurors.] And you, in particular, who were considered to be the cream of the crop or so they say.

Yes. Send. ]

Hades & Persephone
